Great questions to ask your wedding photographer

But feel free to think up your own.  What’s important to you?  What do you want your photos to achieve?  These are all good things to think about!

What's the process? What can we expect once we book you?

We’ll meet up to discuss your wedding day – I want to hear all about it!  What’s the theme?  What colours have you chosen?  Is there a certain look you are going for?  If you’re using Pinterest to plan your day, send me the links to your wedding boards.  Anything that shows me your vision is very helpful.

If you’re happy to book me, I require a non refundable 30% deposit to secure the day.  You’ll also be expected to review my standard wedding photography contract and digitally sign it.

Once we’ve had your engagement shoot (which can be anywhere you’d like in and around Edinburgh or Glasgow) and we’re a bit closer to the wedding, you can expect to receive an online questionnaire that is going to help me put together your timeline for the day.  It includes questions like the timing of ceremony and dinner, photo groupings we can’t forget to take and confirmation of contact details.  I’ll put this all together in a handy one page timeline for you both to sign off on – so everyone is on the same page.

A few days after your wedding expect to see a little “sneak peek” of your photography in your inbox.  This is a small collection of images  I’ve picked out which I think gives a wonderful overview of the great day you both shared with friends and family.  Your final images will be sent to you within 6 weeks of your wedding day in a gorgeous online gallery and hosted for one year.

Are you the photographer that will shoot my wedding?

Yes, unless you have requested a second shooter who will accompany me on the day.  This is my own business and I am highly invested in the look and feel of the images I create.  All the work on my website and my portfolio (unless stated) is 100% my own.

What's the deal with the final images? Do we pay you for prints?

You own your final edited  photos.  Once the final set of images is delivered to you, it’s up to you what you do with them.  Share them on Facebook!  Send the log in details to your friends and family for your online gallery.  Make a fun album with your favourite shots and even order some prints with your favourite supplier.  It’s totally up to you.

I really encourage you to come back to me for professional level prints if you are thinking about displaying or framing any of your images.  All my display sized prints and albums come with detailed retouching and quality control and are full guaranteed against fading.  You just can’t beat the colour reproduction of professionally printed images.  If your package includes print credit or an album, take advantage and speak to me about selecting the images that really capture the day.

Print and album prices are here.

Will our wedding end up on a wedding blog?

Maybe!  There’s no guarantee, but wedding blogs LOVE weddings that are quirky, stylish and have loads of personality.  And in fact, so do I.  If you’re planning a particularly special or unusual day, something that is totally off the beaten track, combines different cultures in a new and interesting way or is going to be a different take on a traditional wedding then I’d love to hear from you!

What's your working style?

Totally friendly and relaxed!  The highest compliments that I receive from clients are things like “it was just like having a great friend photograph my wedding” and “you were so stealthy, I didn’t even know you were there!”  I can be assertive when I need to and I’m absolutely on hand to guide you, but mostly I love capturing people laughing, having a great time and enjoying celebrating the love of their best friends or family.  I love a bit of banter with the lads and I cherish the mornings with “all the girls” getting ready and feeling the excitement of whats to come.

Are you insured? What happens if something goes wrong?

Myself, my equipment and my business are all fully insured with reputable UK based insurance companies, specialising in photography insurance.  I operate with a full equipment back up and my kit is checked and serviced regularly to protect against potential problems.

I back up regularly, cycle my memory cards and take all reasonable precautions to protect your photography.

If for a life/death reason I am unable to photograph your event on the day and a reschedule is not possible, then I have a network of highly qualified photographers that I can call on to replace me in an emergency.  I hope that never happens, but I am prepared for the worst should it occur.

What equipment do you use?

My main camera is a Nikon D750 and my backup camera is the Nikon D700.

Both are total workhorses when it comes to image quality, photographing in low light and nailing that focus time and time again. I carry with me a range of lenses that allow me to capture gorgeous portraits or intimate moments from a distance. And of course, those details that you’ve spent months planning!  I shoot digital and all edited images are supplied in high resolution colour.  I also select some of my favourites to give to you as copies in timeless black & white.

What are our choices for albums?

For weddings, I use Loxley’s gorgeous Belissimo series of hand bound professionally printed albums.  They come in a huge (positively dizzying) range of sizes, colours and price points, so to be honest it’s best if you come see me to start planning your wedding album.  If your album is included in your package, it will be the Loxley Belissimo Perfetto with a leather-look cover in a large choice of colours.  The image choice is totally up to you and is done via your online gallery.  I will design your album layout and send you proofs.  You are then more than welcome to make as many changes as it takes to get your album perfect!
