I love all engagement shoots, but when I get to travel to *exotic* locations and meet fantastic new people, I love them all the more!
Photographers are probably all guilty of “familiarity boredom” setting in, when you’ve photographed the same locations quite a few times before and you’re itching to discover something new.  So when Tobi + Kathrin, a Swiss couple living in Basel, got in touch to ask if I would photograph their Switzerland engagement in their home town – I was more than delighted to say YES!

Location shooting is exciting but also incredibly daunting if you’ve never been there before – and I had never stepped foot in Switzerland.  You feel a little out your depth, not knowing where the good spots are, where the light is going to be hitting and when… many unanswered questions.  Luckily I had a few hours before meeting up with Tobi + Kathrin so I spent my time wandering the back streets, checking out the views across the Rhine and soaking up the laid back Swiss cafe culture.   I planned a little route for us to take which I hoped was going to encapsulate the old town, while still giving T+K a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera.

I heard all about their exciting wedding plans for July, learned more about life in Basel and was even treated to the most delightful little ferry trip across the river Rhine to the sun soaked steps on the other side.  We ended our romantic wander through the old town with a glorious sunset and I felt very fortunate to have got to know these two a little better.  Wishing them so much love and good wishes for their upcoming wedding!  Enjoy their engagement shoot.
