I LOVE getting emails like this. Jacob, who lives in California (close to the beach, so jealous) emailed me to ask if I would like to take engagement photos of him and his then girlfriend Autumn as they traveled through Scotland and Ireland. I most happily obliged! Fresh off the plane and under the very romantic vista of Edinburgh castle, Jacob proposed to Autumn and she of course said yes. This was a private moment between the two of them and I made my entrance the next day to congratulate them and capture the excitement of the previous day. This gave the whole idea a bit of time to sink in for the both of them.
Jacob and I had discussed quite a few possible locations to shoot at, but what stuck out for both of us was Calton Hill. With it’s commanding vistas of Arthur’s Seat, the Firth of Forth and and beautiful monuments in its own right, it’s a wonderful place to get some very romantic and dramatic shots. I was so touched by how much time and effort Jacob was putting into making this engagement so special for unsuspecting Autumn! It made me really excited to meet them both and I wasn’t disappointed, they are such a fun and well matched couple – totally in love and taking full advantage of their adventure around Ireland & the British Isles.
Next on our stop was the charming and iconic Dean Village in the heart of the West End. Dean Village has to be one of my most favourite spots in the city. It’s a 2 minute walk from the West End, yet you feel like you are in the middle of a quaint little hobbit-esque hamlet in the country. It lends itself to the more intimate couple shots but still has a few sneaky dramatic views up its sleeve!
I hope you enjoy this shoot – if you’re planning your own engagement or wedding, I’d be delighted to speak with you to plan something magical. You can get in touch with me here.
